The Ghost Ranch Bones


Summary

This presentation will summarize the results of a zooarchaeological project that Victoria Monagle completed for the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico. These results include a detailed overview and photos of which species and bone elements were identified in a collection of bones collected by Georgia O’Keeffe during her lifetime. Many of these bones were painted by O’Keeffe and this talk will include a brief discussion about which bones were used and how they were portrayed in O’Keeffe’s paintings.

Victoria Monagle is a 5th year PhD student at the University of New Mexico. She studies Zooarchaeology and human-dog relationships in the prehistoric Southwest. She is from El Paso, Texas and lives in Albuquerque with her husband and toddler. Before graduate school, Victoria worked as an archaeology technician and park ranger at several sites in New Mexico and Arizona.
